The season is coming up fast and our amazing lifeguards are already in the water and training. Our club is lucky enough to have the wonderful Peter Baltus join us. He has an amazing background in IRB's and is turning us into Inflatable Rescue Boat experts! Check out some footage from our latest training session below.

Hi everyone
Surf Life Saving Northern has been selected as one of 3 charities to be selected via a voting poll to receive donations from 4Good who distribute donations to a different charity each month. 4Good are now accepting votes via the poll on https://www.4good.org.nz/…/https-www-4good-org-nz-2018-02-…/ The charity with the most votes by 5pm on the last day of the month will become the 4good charity for next month. Now is the time to spread the word on Facebook or by email. Attention Lifeguards,
Are you a - A returning SLSNR Examiner (SLA or IRB) - A returning club instructor (SLA or IRB) - An instructor who wishes to become an Examiner - A lifeguard who wishes to become an instructor (all info needed is in the survey) If one of the above applys to you please follow this link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/FH9DP9V Your responses will help SLS Northern Region plan the season ahead, to allow it to ensure that we cater to clubs needs across the region. Dates for Instructor and Examiner briefings (annual refreshers) this year haven’t been set, but Northern will look to confirm these shortly after the Chief SLA Examiner is appointed (9th August). This week the nominations for the Surf Lifesaving Northern Region Awards of Excellence have been announced.
SLSNR is comprised of the clubs from Ahipara (90 mile beach) all the way to Raglan. SLSNZ’s Local/Regional Awards of Excellence programme recognises contribution of our members to the grass roots of Surf Life Saving during the 2017/2018 season. Each club is entitled and encouraged to enter one nomination per category (typically the winning club equivalent for the category). Nominations will be judged against the criteria outlined for each award by local lifesaving and sport committees. The winners of local awards of excellence will automatically become finalists for the prestigious national DHL Awards of Excellence to be held later in 2018. Finalists will be judged by the National Sport Committee, National Lifesaving Committee or the board of SLSNZ depending on the award category. Our club is so excited to have Jess Robinson chosen as a finalist for the 2018 SLSNR Awards of Excellence (Instructor of the Year). The awards will be held on Saturday 14th of July 2018. If you are interested in attending the awards please contact the club before the 3rd of July. This winter, three of our guards have been braving the cold water (and with the help of some amazing instructors from Sunset Beach Surf Lifesaving Club) have been working towards their IRB drivers qualifications. The training was incredibly condensed but our three lifeguards rose to the challenge and performed spectacularly on their exam. A massive congratulations to Emma, Tiare, and Ben; you have certainly done Whangarei Heads VSLSP proud! A congratulations also to Temiko who achieved his IRB crewman's award. I also want to say a big thank you to Shane Edwards and his team for their time and sharing their incredible knowledge and skills. Check out some of the picture below. |
